Program Objective

     To prepare the student for an entry level career in accounting positions that provide opportunities for advancement to professional levels. Accountants need to be good at working with numbers and concentrating on details.  Employees need to be careful, accurate, and orderly in their work.  Jobs for accountants are found in virtually every industry, including wholesale and retail firms, schools, hospitals, physicians' offices, banks, and governmental agencies.

Competency Profile

Upon completion of the Accounting program, the graduate should be able to:
  • Interpret accounting principles and apply these standards to a business environment.

  • Gain a knowledge of various accounting needs in governmental, service, and manufacturing environments, and evaluate the career opportunities that exist within these organizations.

  • Demonstrate accurate communication skills both verbally and in writing in any business organization.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer word processing, spreadsheets, and databases using Microsoft Office software programs efficiently.
  • Apply accounting and management skills effectively.

  • Provide an understanding of auditing, cost, tax, and payroll accounting.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in computerized accounting.
