OFFICE ASSISTANT

Program Objective

     To prepare the student for an entry level career as a Legal Office Assistant or Transcriptionist. The program stresses practical and specific skills designed to meet the employment and personnel training needs of attorneys, corporations, government agencies, law firms, legal departments of banks, insurance companies, and various business organizations. Courses in this program will provide students with skills in legal research, human relations, and microcomputer knowledge.

Competency Profile

Upon completion of the Legal Office Assistant program, the graduate should be able to:
  • Locate and provide reference for legal documents.

  • Prepare memorandums, briefs, and other forms of legal correspondence.

  • Proofread and edit appropriate law documents.

  • Use clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing, and maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

  • Maintain a professional level of confidentiality and respect to all clients.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in using computer word processing and spreadsheets using Microsoft Office software programs efficiently.
