TECHNOLOGY

Program Objective

     To prepare the student for an entry level career as a Medical-Dental Office Assistant or Transcriptionist. Students will acquire skills in medical law and ethics, computerized account management, computer word processing, medical records, anatomy and physiology, medical-dental terminology, medical-dental insurance and coding, credit and collections, human relations, machine transcription and medical office procedures.

Competency Profile

 

Upon completion of the Medical Records Technology program, the graduate should be able to:
  • Apply basic medical office skills such as keyboarding, filing, charting, answering the telephone, and scheduling patients.

  • Schedule patients for routine office visits.

  • Complete data entry and billing for insurance claims.

  • Use clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing, and maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

  • Maintain a professional level of confidentiality and respect to all patients.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer word processing and spreadsheets using Microsoft Office software programs efficiently.
