SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY

    Program Objective

    To prepare the student for an entry-level career as a surgical technologist. The student will be oriented to the operating room environment and will be able to perform routine procedures during surgery. The program will acquaint the student with an understanding of the field standards of sterilization, contamination, and pharmacology. Students will develop strong microcomputer skills and will have the opportunity to complete a realistic externship experience with a local hospital prior to graduation.

    Competency Profile

    Upon completing of the Surgical Technologist program, the graduate should be able to:

    • Demonstrate asepsis in the operating room.

    • Pass instruments and sterile items and equipment to the surgeon during a procedure.

    • Maintain the sterile field.

    • Prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment before and after an operation.

    This program is available only at the Sunbury campus.
